CLIMATE:Subtropical humid climate

Humidityis moderate throughout the year, ranging from 60% to 70%

Temperatureis varies between the seasons – within the range of 48°F/9°C to 88°F/31°C during the day. Minimum temperatures never dip below 45°F/7°C

Rainy and humid season (October to May) and a dry season between June and October. The average annual rainfall is 1,200 mm

ECOLOGY:Unlike other Sumatran species, Alocasia ‘Prince of Curup’is not a lithophile, and found in a valley surrounding the town of Curup

Species description

SPECIES DESCRIPTION: Thick and distinctly leathery leaves, with a unique embossed venation between the secondary veins

INFLORESCENCE:N/A

VARIEGATED FORMS:N/A

ETYMOLOGY: Though undescribed, this cultivar is named after Curup, the administrative capital of Bengkulu Province in Sumatra, Indonesia

NOTES: Though some similarities to Alocasia longiloba ‘Watsoniana’ have been noted, no inflorescence has been observed to confirm.

Growers have noted that the quantity of calcium oxalate is significantly higher than in other Alocasia, so proper protective equipment is recommended when handling it.
